Miura was the first mid-engined sports car, which would later become the standard for all the cars with similar performance. Announced in 1966, it was the fastest road track car ever made, and it cost about 20 000$ (which would be about 150 000$ in 2017). The production ended in 1973 due to bad financial situation in the company. One was owned by Frank Sinatra. Miles Davis also owned one, which he crashed in October 1972 under the influence of cocaine, breaking both ankles. Eddie Van Halen owns one and can be heard revving it up during the bridge in the song Panama.
Even today, it is considered as one of the most beautiful cars ever made and it is definitely an important piece of automotive history.
Well, if this car looks beautiful and aggressive now, imagine how it looked back in 2004, when it was first announced. Porsche has always been known for their boring design of the 911, but Carrera GT brough something completely different to their line. This well-known supercar machine is powered by a V10 engine which produces 612 horsepower and can get from 0-100 km/h in only 3,9 seconds! The production ended in 2006, and during that period (from 2004 to 2006), 1270 models of these were made. This particular car is also the car that got the famous actor Paul Walker killed. The driver said it was scary to drive even at normal speed in ideal conditions. But, boy is it stunning...
The Ford GT was originally built to represent the 100th anniversary of Ford's existence. With that said, even the left headlight cluster is designed to say "100". Even more symbolic, the "40" in its name (GT40) represents the height of the car, which only measures 44 inches (1 130 mm). If we take the performance of this car into account, the starting price of $140 000 really doesn't seem much. I mean, we all know American cars have never been too expensive and have always been a great value, but this car may have been the biggest bargain of its time. The production of Ford GT40 started in 2005 and during 2005 and 2006, there were 4038 models made, which is actually a lot less than initially planned (around 4500 models), but it still isn't that exclusive. Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear liked this car so much that he bought one of his own, although many say that this car is really hard to drive and the technology of the interior definitely isn't the best you could buy in 2005.
The Lexus LFA definitely has a special mark in Japanese automotive industry. At the price of around 375 000$, it is one of the most expensive Japanese road cars ever made. The production began in 2010 (although there were several prototypes made before that), and only 500 of these were made, with no intention of making more. The LFA may not be the world's best looking car, but it has a special selling point and many of the reviewers say that - the LFA has the best sound that a car can make... The Enzo (as the name itself suggests) is a tribute to the man that made Ferrari what it is today, and as one, it is a perfect way to do it, because it resembles the the best Ferrari has ever come up with (well, at that time...). Initially, there were 399 of these made, but later they decided to make another 50, making it 449 units. The price in 2002 was around 660 000$, but now, they even clock up to 2 000 000$! The Enzo was designed by Ken Okuyama, the Japanese former Pininfarina head designer, and it still remains as one of the most beautiful supercars ever made.
The MC12 is Maserati's answer to the Ferrari Enzo, with similar chassis and identical top speed (The MC12 is a bit slower, but only for 7 MPH). The only other competitor to this car would be the Ferrari FXX, as this is supposed to be the greatest from the Italian manufacturer. There are only 50 of these made during 2004 and 2005 and the price for each unit is around 670 000$, which is a lot cheaper than the Enzo. But once we ignore all of this, the main selling point of this beauty is the design, which is truly a piece of art.
Yes, this design is absolutely out of this world... It even looks like the aliens came to Earth. But, this car is essentially a Lamborghini Aventador with a different design, only far more unique and a lot more expensive. And I mean a lot more expensive... This car costs 4 million dollars, and more suprisingly, only 5 of these were made (and all of them are already sold). Every single buyer of this car ordered one without even seeing it first, but I guess it was so unique they just had to have it...
